Viola pedata

Seeds are ejected and ants also disperse seeds. Host for Fritillary butterflies including the Regal Fritillary (Speyeria idalia) which is likely extirpated in Michigan. Flowers usually visited by beetles and small butterflies. It does not produce cleistogamous(klī-stä-gə-məs: closed self-pollinating) flowers like most other violets. It occassionally blooms again in the fall during optimal weather conditions.
